Navman N40: Explanation of the Screen
part of our review of the Navman N40 on Friday 23rd May 2008
The Navman N40 features a small 3.5 inch screen and therefore is limited to what it can display at any one time. The screen below shows a typical display before a route has been planned:

- The route stats menu hides all the important information in our opinion. Given there is only 3.5 inches to play with here, something inevitably has to give way and unfortunately it is the route statistics (current time, estimated journey length, estimated time of arrival). We would prefer to see all this information displayed as standard but the screen size obviously limits this from being a possibility.
- The Quick Access buttons are a great innovative feature. The two Point of Interest related buttons are Fuel and Parking. Fuel will bring up a list of petrol stations near to you and Parking brings up a list of car parks. It's a handy feature and one we hope Navman continue to offer on future models.
- Menu is where you can find all the settings. Everything is contained here from routing to preferences.
- The Plan a Route quick access button speeds up the time taken to plan a route using the N40i. No matter where you are on the system, press this button and you'll be instantly taken to the route planning menu.
- Back to Map will probably be the best button you'll use as it will instantly take you back to the main mapping screen. So, if you get lost in a sub-menu (quite unlikely given the ease of use), press this button to get back to familiar ground.
