Navman S90: Explanation of the Screen

part of our review of the Navman S90 on Monday 9th June 2008

The Navman S90 features a 4.3 inch widescreen display which makes viewing the system easier on the eye. Typing using the touch screen keypad is easier than on the S90's little brother the Navman S30 which sports a 3.5 inch screen. The screen below shows a typical display mid-route:

  1. The next direction is split into a text command and a pictorial command. The text option is great for when you didn't quite here the last instruction or where the text-to-speech capability of the system can't quite grasp those obscure Welsh place names! The pictorial representation is handy for a quick glance to reassure yourself that you're going the right way or to prepare yourself for the next manoeuvre
  2. The route stats is expanded in this example to show what information can be displayed at the touch of a button. 'DTG' stands for Distance To Go and shows you how many miles you have left to go before reaching your destination. Likewise, 'TTG' is Time To Go and is displayed in hours and minutes. Beneath this is the current speed (we were stationary for this example). Next is 'ETA' which is Expected Time of Arrival and beneath that is the current time. This information is handy especially for business users who need to advise clients how far away they are from a destination.
  3. Main menu is where you can find all the settings. Everything is contained here from routing to preferences.
