Tomtom Go 920 Traffic: Screen Photographs

part of our review of the Tomtom Go 920 Traffic on Wednesday 11th June 2008

When you switch the system on, it displays a loading screen for a good 5 to 10 seconds. Whilst this isn't detrimental to the system in any way, it would be nice to have an instant load time. When the battery still holds charge, if it loaded instantly, it would save time. Naturally, if the battery has lost charge, it wouldn't remember your last position so it would be necessary to load afresh.

The TomTom Go 920T is Bluetooth® enabled. Not only can you use the supplied remote control to navigate the system but you can also connect your Bluetooth® enabled mobile phone.

You could even connect a set of Bluetooth® speakers and direct the audio (navigation instructions and the TomTom Jukebox) through these. The Go 920 Traffic also has an FM transmitter built-in so you can play the instructions over a specified radio frequency.

If you have an iPod, connect it through the system. Now your vehicle becomes iPod enabled, simply by using your sat nav system!

Getting from A to B is easy, as is finding a Point of Interest (POI). You can either search for specific points such as 'Petrol Station' or 'Hospital' or you can search for points with specific words in them. Here we've searched for all Points of Interest with the word 'London' in it.

More specifically, we were looking for directions to the London Eye. When you select a POI, the system displays information about it such as a contact telephone number (very useful for the hotel listings) and it's location.

A click on 'Select' will send the system into planning mode as you can see below. Here it is working out the optimum route  between Birmingham city centre and the London Eye. The 920 has an option to specify start positions away from your current location, meaning you can plan ahead. The itinerary mode means you can set up multiple destinations ready for navigation. This means you can pre-program the system at the start of your journey and not have to worry about entering destinations at each stop.
