Binatone Carrera X350 Uk: Windscreen Mount
part of our review of the Binatone Carrera X350 Uk on Wednesday 18th June 2008
The windscreen mount supplied with the Carrera X350 is a mixed bag. It features a locking clip for the suction pad meaning that the mount will stay affixed regardless of how many potholes you drive over!
It does let itself down in a couple of aspects:
- Rather than use a true ball-and-socket movement to tilt and swivel the system, Binatone opted for large bolts to lock the system in place. This means if you need to quickly swivel the system, you cannot.
- We noticed a rattle coming from the mount when we were travel on the dual carriageway and motorway. We didn't notice this too much on smaller roads though.
- The biggest offense is the size. The mount that comes with the X350 is the biggest we have ever seen. Whilst the size allows the system to be closer to the driver, the size of the mount is intimidating, especially to someone who has never used a system before - which is the target market of the X350.
Just because the mount rattles and is the size of a brick doesn't mean you should rule out the X350. We just hope that this is refined for successor models and a new mount is developed. Just as long as they keep the locking lever, we're happy!
