IQ Routes is a new concept from TomTom. Instead of using standard data that links road types and speeds whilst calculating routes, it makes use of historical data.

When you plan a route, it will calculate a route based upon historic information about the possible roads to be used during the journey.

For example, if a stretch of road is always congested between 8am and 9am, your TomTom will take this into consideration. The result is it might determine the quickest route is to let you sit in the congestion (perhaps there's no viable alternative or the alternative is unrealistic and significantly longer). The result may also be a "shortcut" which will bypass the congestion.
